Miami Heat Crowned 2013 NBA Champions & Twitter Reactions

The much anticipated and closely followed finals series between the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs has reached its conclusion today with the former taking the crown for its first back-to-back championship. The series was highly fought that no team has established a back-to-back win, until Miami did so today in the most crucial game of the season. Lebron James, also season MVP, performed in the clutch with key baskets such as his two-point shot with roughly 30 seconds in the game that put the lead up to four points. Meanwhile, Manu Ginobili also suffered several lapses and unforced errors down the line that ruined the chances of the Spurs to make a come back.

In addition to winning the championship trophy, Lebron James also earned the honors of Finals MVP during the awarding ceremony after the game. Meanwhile, the social media sphere had been closely following the series, too, wherein fans and NBA players or personalities alike gave their two cents about the development of the series, and most especially the pivotal Game 7.

Here are some of the player reactions at Twitter:

The Eastern Conference Finals Game 1 tipped off last Wednesday, May 22, and it proved to be the thriller it was marketed to be. Paul George emerged as a hero for the Pacers, standing his ground with a three-point shot in front of Lebron James' defense that sent the game into overtime. 2013 NBA Western & Eastern Finals Schedule

Image: USAToday.com

The stakes are bigger at the upcoming game schedules in the NBA as the competition is down to four teams. Memphis Grizzlies (first time in the Western Conference finals) and the playoffs veterans San Antonio Spurs are slugging it out for the Western Conference trophy. Meanwhile, Indiana Pacers have their backs against the wall as they're going up against Miami Heat, which is a favorite to win it all this year.

Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals series tipped off last Sunday, May 19, at San Antonio wherein the Spurs blasted the Grizzlies by winning 105-83. The game started off with the Grizzlies trailing in double digits and they staged a short comeback that cut the lead to only six by the third quarter. However, the Spurs quickly put an end to Grizzlies' attempt to make a dominating debut in their first Western Finals appearance. Matt Bonner lead an 11-1 run to close out the third with 16 points between them.

Many of the Grizzlies top players didn't show up during Game 1 namely Zach Randolph, who left the game with more than 5 minutes left in the fourth quarter to play and only two points under his belt. It has been noted that the Grizzlies executed the classic gritty defense and inside-out offense during the entire season, which has worked successfully for them at this point. But the Spurs beat them at their own game. Now, the Grizzlies are hoping to make the necessary adjustments come Game 2 in order to even up the series and more importantly, steal one on the road.

Dallas Mavericks - 2011 NBA Champions!

June 12, 2011. Game 6 of the NBA Finals 2011 between Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heat. The Heat have home court advantage. After an up and down series, with Miami winning games 1 and 3, then Dallas winning games 2, 4, 5, and eventually game 6, this was one of the most thrilling NBA finals that fans have gone witness to in a long time.

The basketball action was almost overshadowed by the off-court drama - there was the "coughing" incident that involved Wade and James at Nowitzki's expense, the amount of criticism on James about his inability to perform during the clutch moments of the ball game, and the superhuman abilities of Dirk Nowitzki that has made everyone believe in the Dallas' bandwagon that indeed "The Time is NOW".

With only about 3 minutes left in the ball game for Game 6, the Miami Heat was a hot mess on the court. Turnovers here and there, forced shots, and paralyzed defense. Even the fans of Miami knew the season was over for their team as many had left the American Airlines Arena even before the final buzzer sounded.

Dallas Maverick's lead superstar Dirk Nowitzki can finally add "NBA champion" to his resume. And so will Jason Kidd. At some point, the victory celebration got emotional as Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Kidd has combined 30 years (13 and 17 years, respectively) of wait before they were able to raise the trophy. And for all that, it was a deserving win for the most recent NBA champs. The Finals MVP award for Dirk was only the icing on the cake. For anyone who appreciates a down-to-earth, humble, and resilient player (and team), this is one of the most satisfying NBA championships in a long while.
